Enjoy the skin benefits of your Thanksgiving meal
The skin care experts at Bare Body Shop are here to tell you to indulge and enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow because there are benefits for your skin in that meal.
Let’s start with the main course, turkey. Turkey contains the mineral zinc. Zinc helps your skin sustain it’s collagen and elastin. What does that mean? Firm, tighter skin for you!
We always have sweet potatoes as a side, yes? If not, you’ll want to add them because of the high amount of beta carotene they contain. Beta carotene is an anti-oxidant and we all know those help us fight off those nasty free-radicals, specifically damage caused by the sun.
Another side that is at most tables–cranberry sauce. Cranberries are high in vitamin C and if you have been an avid reader of our blogs you know that there are dual benefits with this vitamin. First, it is an anti-oxidant but it also assists in the production of collagen. If you really want to take it to the next level, rub some on your face and let it sit for awhile and the anti-septic properties are an effective treatment for acne. Just make sure everyone is done eating them first.
Dessert? Did someone say Dessert? It’s not Thanksgiving without the pumpkin pie. Pumpkin contains both beta carotene and vitamin C (see benefits above) but also vitamins A and E. Derivatives of vitamin A are retinoids. These help reduce wrinkles, fade brown spots and give you smoother skin. Vitamin E helps your skin naturally retain moisture. I wish we could give you a benefit of whipped cream beyond it’s deliciousness, but we can’t.
Finally, if you are serving wine (more specifically red wine) your skin will thank you. Red wine contains polyphenols which have multiple benefits for healthy skin. First they have a skin lightening property in that they hinder the production of tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces pigment/melanin. Red wine also targets free radicals and protects your skin’s collagen.
Enjoy that meal and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
